Haren aims for first win in Diamondbacks uniform

PHOENIX (Ticker) - Dan Haren did everything but pick up a win in his first start with his new team.

Haren will take the mound on Monday as the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a three-game series.

Haren (0-0, 4.50 ERA), who was acquired from Oakland in an offseason trade, allowed three runs and four hits in six innings against Cincinnati on Wednesday.

The righthander also contributed at the plate, as he doubled and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. But his chance for a win was spoiled by new closer Brandon Lyon, who allowed a walk-off, three-run homer to Edwin Encarnacion in the ninth inning.

Arizona enters with a bit of momentum, as it finished off a three-game sweep of the defending National League champion Colorado Rockies with a 5-2, 10-inning victory on Sunday.

Lyon, who has taken over for the departed Jose Valverde, blew another save on Sunday, but Stephen Drew hit a go-ahead homer in the 10th after entering the previous inning as a defensive replacement.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers are coming off a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday. All-Star catcher Russell Martin tied the game at 2-2 in the seventh with an RBI double and Chin-lung Hu provided the go-ahead single in the ninth.

Esteban Loaiza (0-1, 3.38) takes the hill in a more familiar role on Monday. Loaiza made his season debut in relief on Wednesday as he allowed one run and two hits in 2 2/3 innings of a 2-1 loss to San Francisco in a game that was delayed over an hour due to rain.

Loaiza went 1-4 with a 8.34 ERA in five starts with the Dodgers last season after being claimed off waivers from Oakland in August.
