Red-hot Hunter leads Angels against Indians
Apr 8, 2008 - 12:41 PM Cleveland (3-4) at LA Angels (5-3) 10:05 pm EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - Torii Hunter looks to continue his strong start on Tuesday when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim continue a three-game series with the Cleveland Indians.
The 32-year-old center fielder, who signed a five-year contract to join the Angels from the Minnesota Twins before the 2008 campaign, hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning on Monday to lift Los Angeles to a 6-4 victory against the Indians.
The homer came just one inning after Hunter gave the Angels a 2-1 advantage when he led off the eighth inning with a solo blast.
Hunter is on fire to start the 2008 season and enters Tuesday's contest batting .368 (14-for-38) with five home runs and nine RBI in nine games.
Ervin Santana (1-0), who will start for the Angels on Tuesday, appeared to put last season's woes behind him during his first start of the new campaign.
The 25-year-old righthander allowed just two runs and four hits in six innings against the Twins on Thursday, leading the Angels to a narrow 5-4 win in his first start after posting a 7-14 record with a 5.76 ERA in 2007.
Indians righthander Jake Westbrook (0-1) is looking for his first win on Tuesday after falling just short during his first start of 2008.
Westbrook allowed two runs and six hits in 7 1/3 innings on Thursday but suffered the loss as Cleveland dropped a 2-1 decision to the Chicago White Sox.
