Nationals trying to snap five-game losing streak

Apr 9, 2008 - 1:44 PM Florida (4-3) at Washington (3-5) 7:10 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Washington Nationals' promising 3-0 start apparently was not a sign of things to come.

The Nationals try to snap a five-game losing streak on Wednesday when they continue a three-game series with the Florida Marlins.

Washington opened the season with a trio of wins before dropping each of their last five decisions, including a 10-7 loss to the Marlins on Monday.

The losing streak is the Nationals' longest since they dropped seven straight from August 24-31, 2007 en route to a 73-89 record.

Jason Bergmann (0-0, 8.44 ERA) tries to get Washington back on track when he takes the mound on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old righthander allowed just one run through his first five innings during his season debut against the Philadelphia Phillies, but didn't get out of the sixth inning, allowing five runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Bergmann did not factor in the decision as the Nationals suffered an 8-7 setback in 10 innings on Thursday.

Scott Olsen (0-0, 6.00) toes the rubber for the Marlins after allowing four runs and seven hits in six innings during his first start on Friday.

The 24-year-old lefty did not factor in the decision as the Marlins picked up a 5-4 victory against the Pirates when Mike Jacobs hit a walk-off home run in the ninth inning.
