Lee tries to shut down Athletics again
Apr 13, 2008 - 1:10 PM Oakland (8-4) at Cleveland (4-7) 1:05 pm EDTCLEVELAND (Ticker) - The Cleveland Indians hope that Cliff Lee can cool off the hot-hitting Oakland Athletics in the finale of a three-game series Sunday.
Lee (1-0, 0.00 ERA) was solid in his season debut against the Athletics, holding them to just an unearned run and four hits over 6 2/3 innings in a 2-1 win last Sunday.
The lefthander is 3-1 with a 2.62 ERA lifetime against Oakland.
With Lee on the mound, the Indians are trying to avoid a three-game sweep. The A's have scored 16 runs in winning the first two games of the series, including roughing up Fausto Carmona on Saturday.
"(Carmona) has some of the best stuff in the game," said Athletics shortstop Bobby Crosby, who homered and drove in three runs. "We started drawing some walks and had to be more patient."
Oakland hands the ball to Chad Gaudin (0-0, 11.25), who gave up six runs and eight hits in four frames in a no-decision against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
Gaudin is 2-1 with a 5.47 ERA in nine career appearances against Cleveland.
