Greinke looks to continue hot start vs. Mariners
Apr 14, 2008 - 1:54 PM Kansas City (7-5) at Seattle (6-7) 10:10 pm EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) - The Kansas City Royals have allowed the lowest number of runs in the majors so far this season, and the starting rotation is the biggest reason why.
Zack Greinke will look to keep the hot starts coming when the Royals visit the Seattle Mariners on Monday.
Second-year stud Brian Bannister tossed a complete-game three-hitter on Sunday to help Kansas City avoid a sweep against the Minnesota Twins.
The Royals have allowed just 32 runs in 12 contests, an average of just 2.67 per game.
Greinke (2-0, 0.60 ERA) will be looking to turn in his third straight stellar effort on Monday. The 24-year-old righthander has allowed just one run in 15 innings this season, and is coming off an eight-inning scoreless effort against the New York Yankees last Wednesday.
The Mariners will counter with veteran Jarrod Washburn (1-1, 3.00). The lefthander picked up a win in his last start, allowing one run and six hits in seven frames at Tampa Bay last Wednesday.
Seattle missed a chance to sweep the Los Angeles Angels on Anaheim on Sunday, falling 10-5 while yielding 16 hits.
