Rangers hope to rebound against Angels

Apr 14, 2008 - 2:11 PM LA Angels (7-6) at Texas (5-7) 8:05 pm EDT

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) - The Texas Rangers will look to snap out of a three-game slide when they host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Monday.

The Rangers were swept in a weekend series by the Toronto Blue Jays, dropping the finale in 10 innings on Sunday.

Texas sent a pair of inexperienced starters to the mound in Luis Mendoza on Saturday and Scott Feldman on Sunday, but an offense that managed just five runs combined in the two contests offered the youngsters little margin for error.

The Angels avoided a sweep on Sunday by pounding out 16 hits in a 10-5 win over the Seattle Mariners. Jeff Mathis homered and Howie Kendrick doubled twice in the win.

But Kendrick was forced to leave the game in the seventh inning after tweaking his left hamstring, and will likely not be availible on Monday. The young second baseman is hitting .500 so far this season.

The Rangers will send Jason Jennings (0-2, 7.45 ERA) to the mound on Monday. The righthander will be searching for his first American League win after signing with the club in the offseason.

Jennings has yielded four runs in each of his two starts, while the Texas offense has managed just one run in each of his starts.

Anaheim will counter with righthander Ervin Santana (1-0, 3.00). The 25-year-old has struggled on the road in his career, going 11-21 with a 7.03 ERA.
