Athletics try to continue dominance over White Sox
Apr 15, 2008 - 12:32 PM Oakland (9-5) at Chi White Sox (7-5) 2:05 pm EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) - The Oakland Athletics try to continue their dominance against the Chicago White Sox when the teams conclude a two-game series on Tuesday.
Athletics rookie Greg Smith picked up his first win of the season on Monday, allowing just one run and six hits over six innings en route to a 2-1 victory.
The win was Oakland's fifth straight over the White Sox, who fell to 18-43 against the Athletics since the 2001 season.
Former Athletic Nick Swisher, in his first game against his former team, reached base three times Monday with a walk and two singles.
However, A.J. Pierzynski was the only other player with more than one hit for the White Sox, who had outscored the Detroit Tigers, 18-0, over their previous two games.
Chicago tries to get their offense back on track against Athletics rookie Dana Eveland.
Eveland (1-0, 0.68 ERA) was stellar in his last start, surrendering just three hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings.
The 24-year-old lefthander walked three and struck out six but did not factor in the decision as Oakland fell, 3-2, in 12 innings to the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday.
John Danks (0-1, 8.00) was terrific in his first start of the season for the White Sox, but is looking to bounce back on Tuesday.
The lefthander allowed seven runs and seven hits, lasting just 2 1/3 innings as Chicago suffered a 12-5 setback to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.
