Jackson trying to solidify spot in Rays rotation

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) - Edwin Jackson might be pitching his way into a permanent spot in the Tampa Bay Rays' starting rotation.

Jackson looks to stay undefeated this season when the Rays close out a two-game series against the New York Yankees.

The 24-year-old Jackson (2-0, 0.64 ERA) has been dominate in his first two starts this season, surrendering just one run in 14 innings.

The righthander allowed only two hits while striking out six and walking four in eight scoreless innings en route to a 7-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.

If Jackson can continue his strong pitching, he will likely remain in the rotation when Scott Kazmir and Matt Garza return from injury.

Kazmir has been out since February 25 with a strained left elbow while Garza was placed on the disabled list last Tuesday with right elbow irritation.

New York's Andy Pettitte (1-1, 3.09) will toe the rubber on Tuesday in a rematch of the April 5 meeting between the Rays and Yankees.

The lefthander allowed just one run and five hits in 6 2/3 innings on Thursday, leading New York to a 6-1 victory against the Kansas City Royals.

Pettitte surrendered just one run in six innings during his last start against Jackson and the Rays but did not factor in the decision as the Yankees dropped a 6-3 decision.

Yankees' reliever Joba Chamberlain is not with the team, as he has returned to Nebraska to be with his ailing father.
