Marlins offense aims to get back on track vs. Braves
Apr 15, 2008 - 1:54 PM Atlanta (5-7) at Florida (7-5) 7:10 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) - The Florida Marlins offense has cooled off after a red-hot start.
The Marlins look to take advantage of a shorthanded pitching staff on Tuesday when they open a three-game series with the Atlanta Braves.
Florida pounded out 21 home runs in its first 10 games this season. However, after winning the series-opener, 10-6, on Friday, the Marlins were outscored, 10-1, by the Houston Astros over the final two games of the series.
The Braves send Jair Jurrjens (1-1, 4.38 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday after Tom Glavine failed to make it out of the first inning of his start on Sunday, suffering a strained right hamstring.
Jurrjens, who was acquired from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for shortstop Edgar Renteria during the offseason, allowed four runs and nine hits in seven innings en route to a 4-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies last Tuesday.
Scott Olsen (1-0, 4.61), who has struggled against the Braves during his career, will counter for the Marlins. The 24-year-old lefthander is just 1-4 with a 8.54 ERA in eight career appearances - seven starts - vs. Atlanta.
