Contreras aims to turn around slow start
Apr 16, 2008 - 12:14 PM Chi White Sox (8-5) at Baltimore (8-6) 7:05 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) - The Chicago White Sox turn to Jose Contreras on Wednesday when they begin a two-game series against the Baltimore Orioles.
John Danks produced a solid outing in Monday's 4-1 win over Oakland to split a two-game series with the Athletics. The lefthander's performance only continued a line of stellar outings by White Sox starters Mark Buehrle, Javier Vazquez and Gavin Floyd.
In their last turn through the rotation, those four have combined for an 0.75 ERA and allowed the White Sox to win three of their last four contests.
In his last outing, Contreras (0-1, 6.17 ERA) surrendered four runs and six hits over 6 2/3 innings in a 5-2 loss to Detroit on Friday.
Dating back to last season, the righthander is winless in his last four starts and hasn't fared well against Baltimore, going 3-4 with a 5.50 ERA in 10 appearances - nine starts.
Opposing Contreras is Adam Loewen (0-0, 7.45), who will try to help the Orioles improve their record at Camden Yards to 7-2.
