Upstart Marlins aim for series win over Braves

Apr 16, 2008 - 1:01 PM Atlanta (5-8) at Florida (8-5) 7:10 pm EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) - The surprising Florida Marlins look for a second straight win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday in the middle game of a three-game series.

The young Marlins figured to be near the bottom of the National League East after trading Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera to Detroit this offseason.

But so far they've held their own, despite having the league's lowest payroll and a generally apathetic fanbase.

Scott Olsen threw seven scoreless innings and Josh Willingham had an RBI triple in a 4-0 series-opening victory on Tuesday.

Florida, which is second in the majors with 21 home runs, will face a stiff test against Atlanta righthander Tim Hudson.

Hudson (2-0, 2.14 ERA) has won two straight starts, allowing just three runs over his last 14 innings.

On Friday Hudson limited the Washington Nationals to just three hits in eight innings of a 3-0 victory. He is 6-1 with a 2.28 ERA in 10 career starts vs. the Marlins.

Florida will send Mark Hendrickson (2-1, 4.15) to the hill in search of his third win in as many starts. The righthander is coming off a 4-3 win over Washington on Thursday in which he allowed one run and three hits in seven innings.
