Mariners hope to pull above .500 vs. Athletics
Apr 17, 2008 - 2:03 PM Seattle (8-8) at Oakland (9-7) 10:07 pm EDTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) - The Seattle Mariners will look to pull above .500 and earn a sweep of a two-game series when they visit the Oakland Athletics on Thursday.
The Mariners pulled their record even Wednesday night as Felix Hernandez turned in a dominating complete-game effort in a 4-2 victory.
The 22-year-old righthander allowed eight hits and one earned run, striking out eight and walking one to notch his first complete game victory since April of last season. Hernandez tossed 80 strikes among his 115 pitches.
Raul Ibanez continued his hot play, knocking three hits while driving in a run and scoring a pair. He is 12-for-28 (.429) over the last seven games.
A's starter Joe Blanton lasted eight innings, but tied a career-high by surrendering 12 hits.
Seattle will turn to sinkerballer Carlos Silva (2-0, 3.27 ERA) on Thursday. The Venezuelan righthander allowed 11 hits and three runs last Saturday, but lasted eight innings to pick up his second win of the season.
Oakland will counter with converted reliever Lenny DiNardo (1-0, 6.75). The lefthander won his first start of the season last Saturday, allowing two runs in five innings at Cleveland.
