Fielder looks to follow up strong performance
Apr 18, 2008 - 1:48 PM Milwaukee (9-6) at Cincinnati (7-9) 7:10 pm EDTCINCINNATI (Ticker) - Prince Fielder can relax and just play ball now.
After hitting his first home run of the season, Fielder looks to help the Milwaukee Brewers secure a second straight win on Friday in the opener of a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds.
Fielder, who became the youngest player to hit 50 home runs in season in 2007, snapped a 15-game homer-less drought with a two-run shot in Thursday's 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
"I was jumping up and down like a little kid," Fielder said. "It was strange. Somehow, I felt like I had never hit a homer in my life. Maybe that was because I wasn't thinking about it anymore."
Fielder also had a game-tying RBI double in a three-run eighth inning.
Ben Sheets (2-0, 1.17 ERA) gets the ball for Milwaukee. The righthander outpitched New York Mets' ace Johan Santana on Saturday, allowing just three runs and five hits in 7 2/3 innings of a 5-3 victory.
Sheets has allowed just three earned runs in 23 innings.
The Reds will counter with Bronson Arroyo, who has had far less success thus far. Arroyo (0-1, 5.17) has allowed seven earned runs in his last 10 2/3 innings.
Rookie Joey Votto drove in five runs and Ken Griffey Jr. hit career home run No. 596 as the Reds snapped a five-game skid with a 9-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.
