Nationals seeking revenge against Marlins

Apr 18, 2008 - 1:52 PM Washington (4-12) at Florida (9-6) 7:10 pm EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) - The Washington Nationals are likely looking for retribution on Friday when they open a three-game series against the Florida Marlins.

The Marlins swept a three-game series with the Nationals last week, outscoring Washington, 24-14, in the process.

After opening the season with three straight wins, the Nationals have lost 12 of their last 13 games and enter Friday's contest on a three-game losing streak after they were swept by the New York Mets.

Tim Redding (2-1, 2.25 ERA) was the last pitcher to win a game for Washington and is looking to duplicate that feat when he takes the mound on Friday.

Redding allowed just three runs and six hits in five innings, leading the Nationals to a 5-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. The 30-year-old righthander walked three and struck out two.

Andrew Miller (0-2, 11.37) counters for the Marlins. The lefthander, who was acquired from the Detroit Tigers during the offseason, surrendered five runs and eight hits in five innings on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as Florida suffered a 5-0 loss to the Houston Astros.
