Hunter, Angels hope to keep rolling vs. Seattle
Apr 19, 2008 - 1:35 PM Seattle (9-9) at La Angels (11-7) 9:05 pm EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - It did not take long for center fielder Torii Hunter to start turning some heads for his new team.
Hunter will look to continue to impress with both his bat and his glove Saturday as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim host the Seattle Mariners in the second of a three-game series.
Hunter drove in three runs before making a game-saving catch in the ninth to lead the Angels to their fifth win in six games - a 5-4 victory over the Mariners on Friday.
Richie Sexson blasted two homers and drove in four runs for Seattle, which had its three-game winning streak snapped.
Sexson nearly added a third shot with two outs in the ninth, but Hunter made a leaping catch at the wall in center field to preserve the win for Anaheim.
"I think the ball was going over the fence," Hunter said. "I just tried to time the ball. Nothing beats taking a home run away that could have been the game-winner."
Looking for their third straight win, the Angels will send Ervin Santana (2-0, 3.32 ERA) to the mound. The righthander tossed seven innings in a 7-4 triumph over the Texas Rangers on Monday, yielding three runs and seven hits with six strikeouts.
He will be opposed by Jarrod Washburn (1-2, 3.50), who allowed three runs and six hits with six strikeouts over six frames in a 5-1 setback to the Kansas City Royals on Monday.
