Wright, Mets seek fourth straight win over Phillies
Apr 19, 2008 - 7:34 PM Ny Mets (9-6) at Philadelphia (8-9) 3:55 pm EDTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- David Wright looks to lead the New York Mets to a fourth straight victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.
Wright went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, finishing a home run shy of the cycle in a 6-4 victory on Friday. Wright's eighth-inning double sparked a three-run frame that proved to be crucial when Greg Dobbs hit a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the bottom of the inning.
The two-time All-Star will undoubtedly be happy to see Phillies lefthander Jamie Moyer on the mound. Wright is hitting .429 (9-for-21) with two homers vs. Moyer.
Nevertheless, Moyer (1-0, 5.52 ERA) has had success against New York recently. The 45-year-old has gone 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA in his last four starts vs. the Mets - all Phillies' wins.
On Sunday, Moyer allowed four runs and nine hits in five innings of a 6-5, 10-inning loss to Chicago.
Oliver Perez (1-0, 3.38) will oppose Moyer for the second time this season. Perez, who took the loss on April 8, allowed six runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings of a 9-7 loss to Milwaukee on Sunday - by far his worst start of the season.
The Phillies had won nine straight over the Mets until shortstop Jimmy Rollins went down with a left ankle injury on April 8. The reigning National League MVP has missed the last nine games, and it is uncertain whether or not he will play in this one.
