Millar, Orioles seeking sweep of Yankees
Apr 20, 2008 - 1:39 PM NY Yankees (9-10) at Baltimore (11-7) 1:35 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) - Kevin Millar and the Baltimore Orioles will hope to complete a three-game sweep of the rival New York Yankees on Sunday.
Millar blasted a solo shot - his third home run of the season - as the Orioles cruised to a 6-0 triumph over the Yankees on Saturday. Millar has three hits and three runs scored in the series.
Baltimore has outscored the high-powered New York offense by a 14-2 margin over the first two contests of the series.
"They (Orioles) are playing good fundamental baseball," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "They're throwing strikes, getting hits with runners in scoring position, they're not making errors, not walking batters - just playing the right way."
New York will hope that veteran lefthander Andy Pettitte (2-1, 3.38 ERA) can help reverse its fortunes.
Pettitte picked up his second consecutive win Tuesday, allowing three runs while striking out five over seven innings during a 5-3 triumph over the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Orioles, who have won three straight games, will counter the 37-year-old Steve Trachsel (1-2, 5.65). The 15-year veteran lasted just 2 1/3 frames in his last start, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks in Tuesday's 11-3 setback to the Toronto Blue Jays.
