Rays seek series win over White Sox

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) - With their young pitchers doing better than they expected, the Tampa Bay Rays may be ready to make some noise this season.

The Rays go for the series win on Sunday when they host the Chicago White Sox in the finale of a three-game set.

Few could have imagined that Tampa Bay's rotation would rank sixth in the American League with a 4.04 ERA, one season after it finished with a major-league worst 5.53 mark.

All the more impressive is that none of the five starters are older than 26-year-old ace James Shields.

Edwin Jackson (2-1, 2.84 ERA) would do well to emulate Saturday's starter Andy Sonnanstine, who tossed a three-hitter in a 5-0 win over the White Sox for his first career complete game.

The 24-year-old Jackson, who allowed just one run in his first two starts, is coming off his worst start of the season on Tuesday. The righthander surrendered five runs and four hits with four walks over five innings in a 5-3 loss to the New York Yankees.

John Danks (1-1, 4.32), however, is coming off the best start of his brief career. The 23-year-old lefthander yielded five hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings in a 4-1 win over Oakland on Tuesday.
