Burnett, Blue Jays go for second straight home win
Apr 20, 2008 - 2:09 PM Detroit (6-12) at Toronto (9-9) 1:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) - After snapping a six-game home losing streak, the Toronto Blue Jays go for their second straight win at the Rogers Centre when they host the Detroit Tigers.
Alex Rios homered and Dustin McGowan pitched seven solid innings to lead Toronto to a 3-2 victory on Saturday.
A.J. Burnett (1-1, 7.27 ERA) looks to continue Toronto's momentum when he takes the hill for the Blue Jays.
In his last appearance, the righthander picked up the loss in relief, giving up two runs in the 14th inning of Wednesday's 7-5 setback to Texas. Burnett has given up 12 runs in his last 11 1/3 innings pitched.
Opposing Burnett will be Nate Robertson (0-1, 7.02), who has not fared well in his first three starts this season.
The lefthander went a season-high 6 1/3 innings but gave up four runs and got a no-decision in Tuesday's 6-5 victory over Minnesota.
Blue Jays designated hitter Frank Thomas was benched in Saturday's win in favor of Matt Stairs.
Thomas is in the midst of a 4-for-35 slump, while Stairs went 2-for-3 with a run scored against Detroit.
