Marlins still looking for Miller to get on track

Apr 23, 2008 - 1:31 PM Florida (12-8) at Atlanta (10-10) 7:00 pm EDT

ATLANTA (Ticker) - Andrew Miller will continue the quest for his first win of the season Wednesday when the Florida Marlins visit the Atlanta Braves in the opener of a two-game series.

The 22-year-old Miller (0-2, 9.68 ERA), who was acquired by the Marlins in the deal that sent Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to the Detroit Tigers, is yet to pitch more than five innings in a start this season.

The lefthander is coming off his best outing of the season, receiving a no decision in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Washington Nationals. He allowed a season-low three runs and six hits over five frames in that one.

The Braves will counter with Jeff Bennett (0-0, 4.19), who will be making his third start and ninth appearance of the young season.

Atlanta will hope to rebound from a 6-0 loss to the Nationals on Tuesday, which ended the club's five-game winning surge.

Braves ace John Smoltz became the 16th player in major league history to reach the 3,000-strikeout mark and Chipper Jones had his 13-game hitting streak snapped Tuesday.

Florida had a three-game winning streak end Tuesday, suffering a 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jorge Cantu homered and drove in two runs for the Marlins, who still have five games left on their seven-game road trip.
