Griffey continues pursuit of No. 600 vs. Astros

CINCINNATI (Ticker) - Ken Griffey Jr. looks to move closer to career home run No. 600 on Thursday as the Cincinnati Reds face the Houston Astros in the finale of a two-game set.

The Astros pounded out seven straight two-out hits during a seven-run fourth inning and cruised to a 9-3 victory here on Wednesday. It was the ninth loss in 12 games for the Reds, who are off to their worst start in five years.

The lone highlight of the loss was a Griffey home run - the 597th of his career. The veteran is bidding to become just the sixth player in major-league history to reach the 600 home run plateau.

The 13-time All-Star has hit a home run off 380 different pitchers, and Jack Cassel is hoping he doesn't become No. 381. Cassel will be called up from Class AAA Round Rock to start in place of Wandy Rodriguez, who was placed on the disabled list on Sunday.

Houston, which has scored 36 runs during its four-game winning streak, will look to stay hot against the Reds' Johnny Cueto (1-1, 3.42), who has not won since his major league debut on April 3.
