Cubs look to pile on struggling Rockies

Apr 24, 2008 - 1:27 PM Chicago Cubs (15-6) at Colorado (9-12) 3:05 pm EDT

DENVER (Ticker) - The streaking Chicago Cubs aim for a seventh straight victory on Thursday when they face the Colorado Rockies in the finale of a two-game series.

Aramis Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning and Ryan Theriot hit a go-ahead RBI single in the 10th as the Cubs rallied for a 7-6 victory on Wednesday.

Chicago, which picked up the 10,000th win in franchise history, has won 14 of its last 17 games thanks to a red-hot offense that leads baseball with 133 runs.

Jason Marquis (1-0, 3.86 ERA) benefited from Chicago's prolific offense in his last outing. The righthander allowed one run and six hits in six innings of a 13-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.

While the Cubs are swinging hot bats, the Rockies have been struggling. Colorado has lost four straight games - all of which they led after seven innings. Closer Manny Corpas blew his second save in as many days on Wednesday.

Aaron Cook (2-1, 3.12) will try and put an end to the skid. Cook has allowed just five earned runs and 14 hits in his last 20 innings.
