Lee looking to remain perfect

Apr 24, 2008 - 2:03 PM Cleveland at Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - Cliff Lee looks to remain perfect this season when he takes the mound for the Cleveland Indians in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday.

Lee (3-0, 0.40 ERA) has been outstanding this season, surrendering just one run in 22 2/3 innings while logging 20 strikeouts in his first three starts.

The 29-year-old lefthander pitched eight scoreless innings on Friday, allowing just two hits while walking one and striking out eight to lead the Indians to a 4-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Lee is 7-4 with a 5.35 ERA in 14 career starts against the Royals and has posted a 4-2 record at Kauffman Stadium.

Brian Bannister (3-1, 2.42) tries to bounce back from his first loss of the year when he toes the rubber for the Royals.

Bannister gave up five runs and nine hits in five innings on Friday, walking one and striking out one as Kansas City suffered a 13-2 setback against the Oakland Athletics.

The 27-year-old righthander has faced Cleveland only twice in his career and owns a 1-0 record while allowing two runs - one earned - in 13 innings.
