Dye starts doubleheader on bench
Apr 26, 2008 - 1:03 PM Baltimore (13-9) at Chi White Sox (12-9) 1:05 pm EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) - Jermaine Dye still won't get a chance to continue his mastery of the Baltimore Orioles even though Friday's series-opener was postponed due to rain.
Dye starts the day on the bench when the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles meet for Game One of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday.
The White Sox rightfielder, who is hitting .360 (32-for-89) with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in the last 22 games vs. Baltimore, left Thursday's 7-6 victory over the New York Yankees with a left groin strain.
Dye was scheduled to sit out Friday's game and manager Ozzie Guillen said after the contest was postponed that he plans to stick with the same starting lineup on Saturday.
However, Guillen will change starting pitchers.
Nick Masset (0-0, 3.75 ERA) will be forced to make his first start of the season for Chicago on Saturday. The 25-year-old righthander has yielded five runs and six walks with 11 strikeouts over 12 innings in five relief appearances this campaign.
Brian Burres (2-1, 3.57) counters for Baltimore and is coming off an impressive outing.
The lefthander tossed 5 2/3 scoreless frames in a 6-0 triumph over the New York Yankees last Saturday, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out two.
