Guthrie hopes to get on track vs. White Sox

Apr 27, 2008 - 1:26 PM Baltimore (14-10) at Chi White Sox (13-10) 2:05 pm EDT

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- After splitting Saturday's doubleheader, the Baltimore Orioles will send Jeremy Guthrie to the mound as they face the Chicago White Sox on Sunday in the third contest of a four-game series.

The Orioles took the first game of the doubleheader with an impressive 5-1 triumph, but little-used outfielder Brian Anderson hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning to help the White Sox earn a split with a 6-5 victory Saturday night.

Anderson had not driven in a run in over two years after spending almost all of 2007 in the minors or on the disabled list before barely making the team out of spring training.

Guthrie (0-2, 4.68 ERA), who posted a 7-5 record with an impressive 3.70 ERA last season, has struggled in 2008.

The 29-year-old righthander allowed four runs - three earned - and five hits with four walks over 7 2/3 innings Tuesday as the Orioles suffered a 4-2 setback to the Seattle Mariners.

Chicago will counter with righthander Jose Contreras (1-2, 4.68), who is seeking his second win over Baltimore this season.

The 36-year-old Contreras pitched seven stellar frames, yielding just a run and four hits with six strikeouts during a 3-1 win over the Orioles on April 16. He has surrendered at least four runs in each of his other three starts in 2008.
