Giants RHP Cain seeks first win vs. Rockies
Apr 28, 2008 - 1:50 PM Colorado (10-15) at San Francisco (11-15) 10:15 pm EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - Matt Cain looks for that elusive first win on Monday as the San Francisco Giants open a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies.
The 23-year-old righthander will try and help the Giants faithful forget yet another horrible start from Barry Zito.
Zito, who signed a seven-year $126 million deal last season, allowed eight runs and seven hits in three innings of a 10-1 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday.
Unlike Zito, Cain (0-2, 5.27 ERA) has pitched well but has nothing to show for it. On Thursday he allowed one run and five hits in seven innings of a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres.
Cain's ERA is slightly inflated by one poor start, in which he allowed nine runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings of a 11-1 loss to St. Louis on April 18.
The Giants will try and snap a two-game skid against Rockies' rookie lefthander Franklin Morales. Morales (1-1, 6.00) allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings, but did not factor into the decision in a 7-6 loss to Chicago on Wednesday.
Colorado dropped a 3-2 decision to Los Angeles on Sunday - its third straight loss.
