Encarnacion, Reds seeking fourth straight win
Apr 29, 2008 - 1:28 PM Cincinnati (12-15) at St Louis (14-12) 8:15 pm EDTST. LOUIS (Ticker) - Edwin Encarnacion tries to lead the Cincinnati Reds to their fourth consecutive victory Tuesday when the club faces the St. Louis Cardinals in second game of a three-game set.
Encarnacion helped propel the Reds to victory with his bat and his glove on Monday.
The 25-year-old Encarnacion delivered a pair of RBI doubles and made a run-saving play in the field to lift the Cincinnati to a 4-3 triumph over St. Louis.
Encarnacion, who is batting .298 with six home runs and 14 RBI, capped a two-run second inning with an RBI double and added another in third to make it 4-0.
The third baseman also made a spectacular diving stop in the seventh, robbing Yadier Molina of an RBI single and preserving the Cincinnati lead.
Rookie Johnny Cueto (1-2, 4.05 ERA) will take the mound for Cincinnati in this one. The hard-throwing righthander gave up five runs and eight hits over seven innings during Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Houston Astros.
The Cardinals will counter with righthander Joel Pineiro (1-2, 5.29), who is coming off his first win of the season.
He tossed seven stellar frames, allowing just one run and four hits with six strikeouts in Thursday's 6-2 triumph over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
