Giants new ace Lincecum ready for Rockies
Apr 29, 2008 - 1:36 PM Colorado (10-16) at San Francisco (12-15) 10:15 pm EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - Tim Lincecum is the new ace of the San Francisco Giants.
With Barry Zito moved to the bullpen, Lincecum looks to remain perfect this season when the Giants continue a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies.
Lincecum (4-0, 1.23 ERA), who is trying to become the first Giants pitcher to open the season 5-0 since John Burkett in 1993, picked up his third straight win on Thursday.
He pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings, yielding four hits while walking five and striking out nine en route to a 1-0 victory against the San Diego Padres.
San Francisco claimed a 4-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday just hours after it demoted Zito to the bullpen.
Zito, who signed a $126 million free-agent contract before the 2007 season, is a major-league worst 0-6 with a 7.53 ERA and has allowed opponents to bat .336 against him.
Aaron Cook (3-1, 2.91) tries to help the Rockies rebound when he toes the rubber on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old righthander surrendered just two runs and four hits in eight strong innings, walking three while striking out five to earn his third straight win during Thursday's 4-2 victory against the Chicago Cubs.
