Rockies eye series victory against Giants

Apr 30, 2008 - 12:23 PM Colorado (11-16) at San Francisco (12-16) 3:45 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - After snapping a four-game losing streak, the Colorado Rockies try to earn a series victory on Wednesday when they face the San Francisco Giants in the finale of a three-game set.

Chris Iannetta hit a solo home run and scored a pair of runs to lead the Rockies to a 3-2 victory over the Giants on Tuesday.

Iannetta, who was forced to make his major league debut at third base after injuries to Troy Tulowitzki and Jeff Baker, hit his second homer of the season off the bench in the top of the second inning. He later scored the go-ahead run on a balk by Giants starter Tim Lincecum in the seventh.

Tulowitzki suffered a strained left quadriceps while Baker burst a blood vessel in his right middle finger during batting practice. Both players will be evaluated further on Wednesday.

Ubaldo Jimenez (1-2, 6.46 ERA) looks to bounce back from his worst start of the season when he takes the mound for Colorado on Wednesday.

Jimenez allowed six runs, seven hits and three walks in just 2 1/3 innings, but did not factor in the decision during Friday's 8-7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jonathan Sanchez (2-1, 3.54), who ranks fourth in the National League with 36 strikeouts this season, goes for his third consecutive win when he toes the rubber for the Giants.
