Reyes makes season debut for Braves

ATLANTA (Ticker) - Jo-Jo Reyes hopes to secure a place in the Atlanta Braves rotation when the club hosts the Cincinnati Reds in the second game of their weekend series on Saturday.

Reyes is making his season debut after posting impressive numbers for Class AAA Richmond. The lefthander has limited opponents to just one run over his first 21 innings in the minors.

The 23-year-old was recalled after veteran pitcher John Smoltz was placed on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder and biceps problems.

Reyes could be auditioning for a permanent starting job as Smoltz is likely to work exclusively out of the bullpen when he returns.

Matt Belisle (1-1, 9.00) will counter for the Reds, who have dropped their last three games. On Monday, the 6-3 righthander gave up four runs and five hits in five innings for his first win of the season - a 10-9 victory at San Francisco.

Tim Hudson tossed a three-hitter en route to his 22nd complete game and Brian McCann belted a two-run homer as the Braves snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-0 triumph in Friday's opener.
