Tigers look to avoid series sweep by Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers look to avoid a three-game series sweep by the Minnesota Twins in the finale Sunday.

Tigers send Kenny Rogers (2-3, 6.75 ERA) to the hill in search of back-to-back winning starts for the first time this season. In his last outing, Rogers allowed two runs and six hits in six innings in Tuesday's 6-4 win at Yankee Stadium.

The veteran lefthander has 15 wins with a 2.95 ERA in 49 career appearances against the Twins. He won all three of his starts in the season series in 2006.

Boof Bonser (2-4, 3.75) counters for the Twins, who have won four straight games. The righthander hopes for a repeat performance of his last outing, when he yielded one run with eight strikeouts in seven innings of a 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The 26-year-old Bonser has won both of his career starts against Detroit, posting a 2-0 record with a 3.75 ERA.

Michael Cuddyer had two RBI and former Tiger Craig Monroe hit a two-run homer to lift Minnesota to a 4-1 win over Detroit in the second game of this series on Saturday night.

The Twins' pitching staff has held the Tigers to just two runs through the first two games.
