Rangers aim for fifth consecutive win

May 4, 2008 - 2:59 PM Texas (13-18) at Oakland (18-14) 4:05 pm EDT

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Texas Rangers will look to extend their winning streak to five games when they face the Oakland Athletics in the finale of their three-game series on Sunday.

A.J. Murray pitched effectively into the sixth inning in his season debut and David Murphy hit a three-run homer in the first as Texas held on for a 6-3 win over Oakland on Saturday.

Chris Shelton also homered and Michael Young and Josh Hamilton each drove in a run for the Rangers, who have won six of eight following a seven-game losing streak.

Scott Feldman (0-0, 6.00 ERA) gets the call for Texas in his second major league start. Feldman allowed four runs and three hits over four innings of relief Tuesday in place of injured starter Jason Jennings, who was put on the 15-day disabled list with an nerve irritation.

The 25-year-old righthander has appeared against Oakland five times out of the bullpen, going 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA in six innings.

The Athletics hand the ball to Greg Smith (2-1, 2.73), who allowed just two runs and three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in eight innings of Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Anaheim.

The rookie lefthander owns a 1-0 record with a 3.75 ERA in two starts at home - both wins for the A's.
