Reds look to end five-game slide vs. Cubs

CINCINNATI (Ticker) - The Cincinnati Reds hope a trip back home can help them end a five-game losing streak when they host the Chicago Cubs on Monday for the opener of a three-game series.

The Reds, who went 3-6 over their nine-game road swing, will play nine of their next 12 games at Great American Ballpark.

Cincinnati is coming off a 14-7 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. The club was outscored by a 25-8 margin over their three-game series in Atlanta.

Rookie Johnny Cueto (1-3, 5.40 ERA) will take the mound for the Reds in this one. He was tagged for seven runs - six earned - and eight hits over just 1 2/3 innings during Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

He will be opposed by Ryan Dempster (4-0, 3.16), who is seeking his fifth straight winning decision. The righthander gave up three runs on four hits and five walks over six frames in a 19-5 rout of the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.

Chicago has lost seven of its previous 10 contests. The Cubs suffered a 5-3 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday, managing just five hits.
