Ortiz hopes to power Red Sox to fifth straight win
May 6, 2008 - 12:07 PM Boston (21-13) at Detroit (14-19) 7:05 pm EDTDETROIT (Ticker) - David Ortiz will attempt to keep the Boston Red Sox rolling when they square off against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday in the second of a four-game series.
David Ortiz homered and drove in a pair of runs Monday as the Red Sox defeated the Tigers, 6-3. Ortiz is batting .225 with a team-high six home runs and 26 RBI this season.
Mike Lowell and Kevin Youkilis each blasted two-run shots for Boston, which has won four consecutive games and six of their last seven.
The Red Sox will send knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (2-1, 4.03) to the mound. The 41-year-old righthander tossed seven innings, allowing three runs and six hits with four walks in a 3-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday.
He will be opposed by lefthander Nate Robertson (1-3, 6.82), who is coming off his first win of the season. He gave up four runs and seven hits with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 frames during Thursday's 8-4 triumph over the New York Yankees.
The Tigers, who are trying to avoid a fifth straight loss, are 0-16 this season when failing to score five runs or more.
