Athletics seeking third straight win
May 6, 2008 - 12:28 PM Baltimore (16-16) at Oakland (20-14) 10:07 pm EDTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) - The Oakland Athletics will look to build off a dramatic extra inning win and record their third consecutive victory when they face the Baltimore Orioles in the middle contest of a three-game series Tuesday.
Emil Brown's two-out single to left-center field drove in Daric Barton with the winning run and lifted the Athletics to a 2-1 victory over the Orioles in 10 innings Monday.
Brown, who went 3-for-4 and scored Oakland's other run, is batting .287 with three home runs and a team-leading 27 RBI this season.
Barton singled with two outs and Frank Thomas followed with a walk. Brown then hit Jim Johnson's first pitch into left-center to drive in Barton with the winning run - the first allowed by Johnson in 11 appearances in 2008.
Justin Duchscherer (2-1, 2.40 ERA) will take the hill for the Athletics, who are one game behind the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for the top spot in the American League West.
Duchscherer tossed five innings, allowing six runs - one earned - and six hits with six strikeouts in a 15-8 triumph over the Angels on Thursday.
Baltimore will counter with Brian Burres (3-2, 2.87), who relinquished four runs - three earned - on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts over six frames in Thursday's 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Orioles have lost three in a row and five of six.
