Struggling Morris tries to rebound in time to help Giants

Sep 21, 2006 - 1:29 PM San Francisco (75-76) at Milwaukee (69-83) 8:05 pm EDT

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) - The San Francisco Giants are clinging to life in the postseason hunt, but are running out of time.

The Giants try to inch closer to the clubs they are chasing when they take on the Milwaukee Brewers in the first of a four-game series on Thursday.

San Francisco trails the San Diego Padres by four games in the National League West Division and is 3 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies in the chase for the wild card.

The Giants finish the season with a three-game home series against the Dodgers September 29-October 1.

Matt Morris (10-14, 4.79) gets the start for San Francisco and tries to rebound from three straight losses. In those defeats, Morris has worked 18 innings with a 7.00 ERA.

The righthander's woes continued in his last start on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals, as he gave up five runs in six innings of a 6-1 defeat.

The Brewers counter with Dave Bush (11-11, 4.53), who has won two of his last three starts but languished in his last one. The righthander only lasted four innings against the Washington Nationals on Saturday after surrendering five runs and seven hits.

Bush has been solid in two appearances against San Francisco this season, going 0-1 with a stingy 2.79 ERA.

San Francisco salvaged the finale of a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies with a 7-4 victory on Wednesday. Barry Bonds smacked a run-scoring single in the eighth inning for the go-ahead run.

Milwaukee posted a 1-0 win over St. Louis on Wednesday when Geoff Jenkins hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth.
