Suprising Hendrickson aims to continue hot start

May 8, 2008 - 2:39 PM Milwaukee(16-17) at Florida (19-14) 7:10 pm EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Mark Hendrickson has been an unlikely anchor of a young Florida Marlins' pitching staff.

Hendrickson looks to win his sixth straight decision on Thursday when the Marlins shoot for a three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Rookie Burke Badenhop threw 5 2/3 effective innings and Jorge Cantu and Dan Uggla hit back-to-back home runs to lead the Marlins to a 6-2 victory on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old Hendrickson (5-1, 3.71 ERA) is off to a career best start, and will try and lead the Marlins to a season high-tying third straight win. The 6-9 lefthander allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings of a 6-4 victory over San Diego on Friday.

Hendrickson will face a Brewers team that has dropped five straight and has struggled to score runs. Rickie Weeks hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning on Wednesday, which snapped the Brewers' scoreless streak at 22 frames.

Hendrickson will be opposed by Carlos Villanueva (1-3, 5.56), who allowed a season-high six runs and nine hits in five innings of a 7-4 loss to Houston on Friday.

The Brewers have not had a win from a starter other than Ben Sheets since April 5.
