Gabbard rejoins suddenly hot Rangers rotation

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Kason Gabbard returns from the disabled list on Thursday as the Texas Rangers face the Seattle Mariners in the finale of a four-game series.

Gabbard (1-0, 2.18 ERA) had been out since April 21 when he was removed from his start after just two innings with a sore back.

The 26-year-old lefthander was impressive in his first three starts of the season though, allowing just five runs in 18 2/3 innings.

Vicente Padilla (5-2) pitched seven scoreless innings on Wednesday to lead the Rangers to a 2-0 victory over the Mariners. That came on the heels of a strong outing by Sidney Ponson, who allowed just one run in seven innings on Tuesday.

Felix Hernandez (2-2, 3.04 ERA) counters for the Mariners. The 22-year-old righthander allowed six runs and 12 hits in 5 2/3 innings, suffering his second loss in as many starts during Saturday's 6-1 setback to the New York Yankees.

Hernandez is hoping for some increased run support on Thursday as the Mariners have managed just one run in their last 23 innings.
