Tigers aim to continue recent dominance of Yankees

May 10, 2008 - 1:30 PM NY Yankees (18-19) at Detroit (16-21) 3:40 pm EDT

DETROIT (Ticker) - Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland feels the New York Yankees offense is a ticking time bomb. He just hopes his team is out of town when it finally explodes.

The Tigers hope to continue their recent domination of the Yankees when the teams meet in the second game of a three-game set on Saturday.

Detroit has won all four meetings with New York this season, including Friday's series-opening 6-5 triumph. While the Tigers have scored at least six runs in all four meetings, the Yankees have managed just 15 total.

"I can't wait until Sunday because they'll be gone," Leyland said. "They are going to unload on someone, and I hope it isn't us."

Jeremy Bonderman (2-3, 4.17 ERA) will be charged with the task of keeping that offense in check once again. The righthander continued his inconsistent season in Monday's 6-3 loss to Boston, surrendering four runs and seven hits over six innings.

It marked the third time in seven turns Bonderman has allowed at least four runs in a start. Bonderman will be hoping to repeat the success he had in his last meeting against New York when he yielded two runs in 7 2/3 innings in a 6-2 win at Yankee Stadium on April 30.

He will be opposed by Darrell Rasner (1-0, 3.00), who will make his second start of the season. The righthander was impressive in his season debut on Sunday, allowing two runs and five hits while striking out four over six frames in an 8-2 victory over Seattle.
