Millwood hopes to continue Rangers' scoreless streak

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Hoping to extend their 31-inning scoreless streak, the Texas Rangers will send ace Kevin Millwood to the mound Saturday when they host the Oakland Athletics for the middle contest of a three-game series.

The Rangers posted their third consecutive shutout and fourth win in a row Friday as they snapped the Athletics' four-game winning streak with a 4-0 victory. Rookie Brandon Boggs provided most of the offense, delivering three hits - including his second career home run - and three RBI.

Texas, which outscored its opponents by a 21-1 margin over its current winning streak, has allowed just 10 hits over its previous three contests.

The Rangers are just eight scoreless frames away from tying a franchise record, which was set from April 27-May 1, 1981.

For the streak to continue, Millwood (2-3, 4.94 ERA) will have to be much better than he was in his last outing. The 33-year-old righthander was roughed up for seven runs and nine hits over just three innings during Monday's 7-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners.

He will be opposed by Dana Eveland (3-2, 3.05), who tossed seven scoreless frames in Monday's 2-1 triumph over the Baltimore Orioles. He allowed three hits and four walks while striking out four.

Oakland is currently tied with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (22-15) at the top of the American League West standings.
