Hudson goes for Braves in doubleheader finale

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - Tim Hudson will start Monday when the Atlanta Braves conclude a doubleheader with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Sunday's game was postponed due to rain, and the finale of Monday's doubleheader will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.

With John Smoltz ticketed for a return to the bullpen upon returning from injury, Hudson (5-2, 2.90 ERA) has become the staff ace. The veteran righthander has been dominating in his last two outings, winning each game while allowing two runs and nine hits in 16 combined frames.

Hudson has 30 strikeouts against just eight walks this season and owns a 3-3 record with a 3.23 ERA in seven career starts against the Pirates.

Pittsburgh will counter with righthander John Van Benschoten (0-1, 4.91). The former first-round draft pick has appeared in three games this season - all out of the bullpen.

He is 1-9 with an 8.11 ERA in 14 career starts between 2006 and 2007.
