Halladay, Blue Jays shoot for three straight wins
May 14, 2008 - 1:53 PM Toronto (19-22) at Minnesota (20-18) 8:10 pm EDTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - The Toronto Blue Jays will try to give Roy Halladay some offensive support when they visit the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.
The Blue Jays managed just four runs total during a four-game skid, but have put two wins together while putting eight runs on the board, including a 5-3 win over the Twins on Tuesday.
Matt Stairs homered in the win and Lyle Overbay drove in a run as Toronto managed five or more runs for just the third time in May.
Halladay (3-5, 3.29 ERA) has been the victim of poor run support all season, putting together a stretch of four complete games that included just one win in April. The ace righthander is just 1-4 over his last five starts, with the Blue Jays managing a total of nine runs in those games.
He suffered a loss Friday at Cleveland, allowing four runs and six hits in six innings while striking out nine and walking three in the 6-1 setback.
Halladay has dominated the Twins in his career, compiling a 6-0 record with a 2.66 ERA in 10 games - eight starts.
Minnesota will counter with righthander Boof Bonser (2-4, 5.09). The hefty 26-year-old has gotten knocked around in each of his last two outings, allowing a combined 12 runs - 11 earned - and 15 hits in 10 innings, but has not factored in the decision in either game.
