Howard aims to get untracked vs. Braves

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - If any good can come out of a Philadelphia Phillies' loss, it's that Ryan Howard may be breaking out of a prolonged slump.

Howard and the Phillies aim to rebound and take the rubber game of a three-game series with the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.

The 2006 National League MVP, Howard blasted a solo home run in the eighth inning of Wednesday's 8-6 loss. Howard has strung together a six-game hitting streak which has raised his average to .182 (27-for-148).

Howard will try and raise his paltry average against Chuck James (2-2, 7.58 ERA), who has been struggling as well. James was tagged for five runs and five hits in six innings of a 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday.

The lefthander has allowed 16 runs in 19 innings this season.

Philadelphia, which has alternated wins and losses over its last eight games, sends ace Cole Hamels to the hill. Hamels (4-3, 3.36) yielded four runs and six hits in seven innings of a 7-4 win over San Francisco on Friday.
