Cubs aim to remain undefeated vs. Pirates
May 16, 2008 - 1:22 PM Pittsburgh (20-21) at Chicago Cubs (25-16) 2:20 pm EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) - The Chicago Cubs attempt to stay perfect against the Pittsburgh Pirates this season when the clubs open a three-game series at Wrigley Field on Friday.
The Cubs have won the first six games between the National League Central Division rivals this season, outscoring the Pirates 52-24 in the process.
The Cubs, who are tied with Arizona for the majors best home record at 17-7, will send Sean Gallagher (0-0, 6.48 ERA) to the mound in what will be his second start of the year.
The righthander did not get a decision in his debut on Sunday, when he allowed four runs and five hits over 4 1/3 innings during a 6-4 victory over Arizona.
Opposing him will be Tom Gorzelanny (3-3, 5.97), who will look to build off two consecutive strong starts - both wins.
The lefthander is coming off one of his best outings of the season, as he yielded two runs and seven hits over 7 1/3 innings during Saturday's 5-2 win over Atlanta.
The Cubs and Pirates are the only teams not involved in interleague play this weekend.
