Orioles begin interleague series vs. Nationals
May 16, 2008 - 12:54 PM Washington (18-24) at Baltimore (21-19) 7:05 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) - The Baltimore Orioles open their interleague schedule Friday when they begin a three-game series with the Washington Nationals.
The Orioles, winners of five of their last six, are coming off a two-game series sweep of the Boston Red Sox.
While Washington is last in the National League East, the Orioles are likely taking nothing for granted in the "Battle of the Beltway." Baltimore went 6-12 in interleague play last season, including a horrific 1-8 mark at home.
Garrett Olson (2-0, 2.95 ERA), who continues to fill in for the injured Adam Loewen, gets the start for Baltimore. The lefthander allowed three runs and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings in Saturday's 6-5 win over Kansas City.
Washington counters with Shawn Hill (0-0, 3.56), who will try to earn a decision for the first time in six starts this season.
