Blue Jays seek fifth straight win
May 16, 2008 - 1:32 PM Toronto (21-22) at Philadelphia (23-19) 7:05 pm EDTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - The Toronto Blue Jays will look to extend their winning streak to five games when the visit the Philadelphia Phillies in the opener of three-game interleague series on Friday.
After losing the first three games of their 10-game road trip, the Blue Jays have bounced back to roll off four straight - including Thursday's 3-2 victory at Minnesota.
Toronto hands the ball to rookie David Purcey (0-0, 2.08 ERA), who seeks his first career win. In his debut, the lefthander gave up just one run and two hits with seven walks over 4 1/3 innings but did not figure into the decision against Detroit on April 18.
Jamie Moyer (2-3, 5.02) counters for the Phillies, who won two of three in their series against the Atlanta Braves with Thursday's 5-0 win here. The 45-year-old is coming off hit worst start of the season, getting tagged for six runs and nine hits in four frames of an 8-2 loss at San Francisco on Sunday.
The veteran has 13 career wins with a 5.81 ERA through 36 appearances in the series all-time.
Philadelphia first baseman and former MVP Ryan Howard was one of the top home run hitters during interleague play last season, going deep six times.
