Quentin, White Sox visit Giants

May 16, 2008 - 2:05 PM Chi White Sox (20-20) at San Francisco (17-25) 10:15 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) - Carlos Quentin and the Chicago White Sox will look for their third consecutive victory Friday as they continue their 10-game West Coast road trip, meeting the San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three-game interleague series.

Quentin leads the American League this season with 10 home runs. The 25-year-old slugger is also batting .294 with a team-high 34 RBI on the campaign.

Quentin came with few feet of hitting the go-ahead blast in the ninth inning Thursday, but luckily, Jim Thome provided the RBI single in the next at-bat to lift the White Sox to a 4-3 triumph over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Chicago will send righthander Gavin Floyd (3-2, 3.32 ERA) to the mound. The 25-year-old Floyd was roughed up for five runs and nine hits over 3 2/3 frames in Sunday's 6-3 setback to the Florida Marlins.

The Giants have lost eight of their previous 11 contests and will hope that lefthander Jonathan Sanchez (2-2, 4.89) can help end their struggles.

Sanchez yielded three runs and four hits with five walks over 4 1/3 innings during Sunday's 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

San Francisco squandered a 6-0 lead Thursday and suffered an 8-7 loss to the Houston Astros.
