Werth, Phillies look for encore vs. Blue Jays
May 17, 2008 - 2:42 PM Toronto (21-23) at Philadelphia (24-19), 7:05 pm EDTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Jayson Werth will be hard-pressed to top what he did in his first game against his former team.
Werth and the Philadelphia Phillies continue a three-game interleague series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.
A former Blue Jay, Werth blasted three home runs and tied the franchise record with eight RBI as the Phillies rolled to a 10-3 victory in Friday's opener. The 29-year-old Werth spent the first two seasons of his career with Toronto.
Werth's performance Friday vaulted him into the Phillies' record book alongside Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt. Werth is one of five players in the team's history to drive in eight runs in a game.
A.J. Burnett (3-4, 4.94 ERA) looks to slow down Werth and the rest of his teammates. Burnett, who has lost two straight starts, is 1-3 with a 5.63 ERA in five career games here.
The Phillies counter with Adam Eaton, who is looking his first win since September 21. Eaton (0-1, 5.40) allowed two runs in five innings of a 4-3 loss to San Francisco on Sunday.
