Reynolds to make second major league start vs. Twins
May 17, 2008 - 3:05 PM Minnesota (21-20) at Colorado (15-27), 8:05 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) -- Greg Reynolds again seeks his first career win Saturday when the Colorado Rockies take on the Minnesota Twins in the middle contest of a three-game interleague series.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2006 draft, Reynolds made his major league debut Sunday, allowing four runs and six hits over 5 2/3 innings in a 6-1 loss to the San Diego Padres.
The Rockies hope Reynolds can provide a spark as they own the worst record in the major leagues, just seven months after reaching the World Series for the first time in franchise history.
After young pitchers Ubaldo Jimenez, Franklin Morales and Jeff Francis fueled the Rockies' playoff drove last season, Colorado has seen its entire staff go through some growing pains. The Rockies have allowed the second-most runs of any team in the National League.
Reynolds, a 22-year-old righthander, dominated the Texas League in 2007 and was 1-2 with a 4.86 ERA at Class AAA Colorado Springs this season before being recalled.
The Twins took the series opener Friday, 4-2, snapping a three-game slide with a pair of sacrifice flies by Adam Everett and seven solid innings from rookie Nick Blackburn.
Minnesota counters with Livan Hernandez (6-1, 3.90), who is seeking his fourth straight win. The veteran righthander worked out of a number of jams in last outing, recording a 7-3 win over Boston on Monday despite allowing 10 hits in six innings.
Hernandez, who spent the first 11 seasons of his career in the National League, is 17-14 with a 4.91 ERA in 39 career interleague starts.
