A's aim to wrap up road trip on high note

May 18, 2008 - 2:40 PM Oakland (24-20) at Atlanta (21-21) 1:35 pm EDT

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Oakland Athletics brought out the big bats to end their four-game slide on Saturday. They would like nothing more than to see a repeat of that performance one day later.

With their offense showing signs of life once again, the A's attempt to take the rubber game of their three-game interleague series with the Atlanta Braves on Sunday.

Oakland, which had lost four straight before Saturday's 5-4 win, had seen its offense stumble during the losing streak, which included a pair of shutouts in a three-game sweep in Cleveland. The team managed just a total of two runs in that series - and six overall - during the skid.

Overall, Oakland is 2-6 on a nine-game road trip, which wraps up on Sunday.

Although they still rank near the bottom of the majors with 24 home runs, the A's received help from the long ball on Saturday, getting a solo homer from Jack Cust and a three-run shot from Ryan Sweeney off former Oakland ace Tim Hudson.

There's little doubt Justin Duchscherer (3-2, 2.20 ERA) would like to see more of that type of support when he is on the mound. The righthander allowed just one run over 6 2/3 innings but still took the loss in Tuesday's 4-0 setback to the Indians.

Opposing him will be Jo-Jo Reyes (1-1, 4.30 ERA), who will be hoping to start another long home winning streak for the Braves after Saturday's loss broke their eight-game run.

The young lefthander permitted five runs and 11 hits over 6 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 5-4 loss at Philadelphia.
